About Coffee Tasting

Who writes this

The app and the guides are by Jarrod Hale, who designs and builds Coffee Tasting at J&H Technology. The guides are researched from the Specialty Coffee Association’s cupping standards, World Coffee Research’s Sensory Lexicon and the published research behind the coffee flavor wheels.

We would rather you trust the sources than trust us. That is why every guide cites the standards and papers it relies on, quotes them where precision matters, and links to them so you can check.

Editorial policy

• Primary sources first. Facts about cupping come from SCA standards, World Coffee Research and peer-reviewed papers. Where a source is old or has been replaced, such as the 2004 cupping protocol, we say so.
• Answer first. Every guide opens with a short, direct answer, then the detail.
• No invented numbers. We don’t publish user counts, ratings, reviews, awards or press mentions we can’t show you.
• Respect for other people’s work. We describe and link to the SCA and WCR Coffee Taster’s Flavor Wheel and the SCA forms rather than copying them. The app credits the vocabularies it adapts.
• Fair comparisons. On our comparison page we only state what other apps say about themselves, and we list our own app’s shortcomings.
• Dated and corrected. Guides show when they were published and last updated. Send corrections to jarrod@jandhtechnology.com; we fix real errors promptly and update the date.

Independence

Coffee Tasting is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Specialty Coffee Association, World Coffee Research, Counter Culture Coffee, AgriFutures Australia, Southern Cross University or any coffee company. We earn money only from optional Premium subscriptions in the app. There are no ads, sponsored placements or affiliate links on this site or in the app.
